Why Hugh Jackman turned down Bond role
He's the Wolverine we've come to know and love, but Hugh Jackman has revealed he turned down an offer to play James Bond.
And while the iconic films have been popular for decades, the 49-year-old actor said he just couldn't get on board with the "crazy scripts" at the time. Yes that's right, Hugh thought the Bond scripts were too "crazy" for him.
"I was about to do X-Men 2 and a call came from my agent asking if I’d be interested in Bond," Hugh told Variety. "I just felt at the time that the scripts had become so unbelievable and crazy, and I felt like they needed to become grittier and real."
Despite the Aussie star's reluctance to sign on, Hugh's agent was keen for him to rethink the decision telling him he doesn't "get a say" in the scripts anyway and he should "just have to sign on."
"I was also worried that between Bond and X-Men, I’d never have time to do different things," Hugh added.
Ultimately the role went to British actor Daniel Craig, who starred as James Bond in the 2006 flick Casino Royale before continuing the role for three more movies including 2012's Skyfall andSpectre in 2015.
Although he might have missed out on being Bond, James Bond, Hugh has no regrets about turning down the role saying he "always tried to do different things."
"But there was a time between X-Men 3 and the first Wolverine movie when I could see the roles getting smaller," he went on. "People wanted me to play that kind of hero part exclusively. It felt a little bit claustrophobic."
