Nicole touches on 'abuse' in emotional Golden Globes win speech

Nicole Kidman has shared an emotional speech on abuse after winning Best Actress at the 2018 Golden Globes.

While accepting the Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a limited TV series for her role in Big Little Lies, Nicole touched on the biggest topic surrounding the awards show this year.

“This character that I play represents something that is at the centre of our conversation right now. Abuse,” she said on stage.

“I do believe and I hope we can make the change through the stories we tell and the way we tell them," she continued.

“Let’s keep the conversation alive, let’s do it.”

It comes as the Golden Globes red carpet looked vastly different than that of any awards show in the past.

Hollywood planned to use fashion to make a bold statement at awards ceremony with stars like Meryl Streep and Amber Tamblyn using fashion in a silent protest by trading in their colourful gowns for all-black dresses.

Many followed suit with only a few choosing not to wear black.

Nicole also finished her speech by thanking her family, including Hubby Keith Urban and her mum.

“There have been people in my life for decades that if I get a chance I will thank them,” she said getting emotional.

“I love you, my mama, she was an advocate and it is because of her that I am standing here, my achievements are her achievements.”
