Meryl Streep supports Oprah for president: 'She doesn't have a choice'

Oprah Winfrey gave a powerhouse speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday night as she accepted the Cecille B. DeMille Award.

Her inspiring speech granted her three standing ovations from the star-studded audience and also led to many declaring their support for the former queen of daytime television's bid for president in 2020.

Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep has come out in full support of #Oprah2020 insisting Ms. Winfrey "doesn't have a choice" in the matter.

"[Oprah] launched a rocket tonight," the 68-year-old told The Washington Post. "I want her to run for president."

"I don't think she had any intention [of declaring her candidacy]," the actress added. "But now she doesn't have a choice."

Meryl isn't the only A-lister who has come out backing Oprah's potential 2020 bid for president. Big Little Lies stars Zoe Kravitz and Reese Witherspoon also wholeheartedly agree she needs to run for office.

"Honestly, President Winfrey, it just rolls of the tongue," Zoe told US ABC News backstage at the Golden Globes.

Her co-star Reese also told the outlet the idea of President Oprah Winfrey sounded "right".

John Stamos and Sarah Silverman also came out in support on Twitter for #Oprah2020.

Oprah's moving Golden Globes acceptance speech reduced some to tears as she came out in full support of the Time's Up campaign and spoke out against sexual harassment of women.

"For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men," Oprah said in her inspiring speech. "But their time is up."

The 63-year-old went on to praise all women who chose to brave coming out and saying "Me Too" and praised "every man who chooses to listen".

"I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon," the legendary daytime host boldy stated as she received a standing ovation.

"And when that new day finally dawns," she continued, "it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say 'Me Too' again!"

We agree with Meryl, Oprah doesn't have a choice in the matter. She needs to run.
