Carrie Fisher wins posthumous Grammy

Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher has been honoured with a posthumous Grammy award, thirteen months after she passed away from a cardiac arrest.

Carrie died suddenly, aged 60, whilst on on a plane during her book tour, for her memoir The Princess Diarist in December 2016.

But tonight she took the gong for Best Spoken Word Album at the 60th annual Grammy Awards for narrating the 2016 book, which detailed her life while filming the first Star Wars movie, sensationally admitting she had a fling with co-star Harrison Ford.

The late Carrie beat nominees Bruce Springsteen and Thor's Mark Ruffalo in the category, which was her first ever Grammy.

Carrie still appeared in the latest Star Wars movie — The Last Jedi — which cinemas at the end of 2017 as it was filmed before her tragic death.

Her daughter, Billie Lourd, has taken to to Instagram to praise her mum, saying she's celebrating her win the way she would have loved.

"Princess Diarist was the last profesh(ish) thing my momby and I got to do together," she wrote. "I wish she was here to carry me down the red carpet in some bizarre floral ensemble but instead we’ll celebrate in true Carrie style: in bed in front of the TV over cold Coca Colas and warm e cigs."

"I’m beyond proud," she added.

The 25-year-old appeared on The Ellen Show in April 2017 where she described life has felt "surreal" since her mum's passing.
