13 Reasons Why star shoots down fan theory

While we’re all waiting for season two of 13 Reasons Why to hit our screens, a fan favourite from the show has given us a major clue on what’s to come next.

Christian Navarro, who plays Tony Padilla in the teen angst Netflix programme by Selena Gomez, has claimed there’s no truth to a fan theory that his much-loved character is actually a ghost.

If you thought there was a hint of supernatural set to come in the second season, you’ll be sorely disappointed, as Christian claims Tony is in fact a real human and not the angel we all expected.

"There was a big [theory] that was like, Tony's a ghost," he said to Elite Daily.

"And I was like 'Watch the show, man. There's no way. I interact with everybody; Tony's a real guy.'

Christian’s character Tony is seen as the guardian angel of the show. As Clay’s best friend, he gives him advice, leads him through the tapes and is always there whenever he needs him.

Fans also thought that maybe Tony was an angel because he seemed to be carrying out Hannah’s last wish in the show and was in fact a figment of Clay and the gang’s imaginations.

“That one was a little bit of a stretch to me. Sometimes these fan theories are incredibly impressive and ahead of the curve and shock me, but that was not one of them. It would be amazing, but no.,” he said.

Earlier this year Netflix officially announced that there would be a second season of Selena Gomez’s 13 Reasons Why coming to audiences in 2018.

Showrunner Brian Yorkey told Entertainment Tonight that while season one was all about Hannah’s story, season two will delve into the other character’s lives.

“We really have characters who, after 13 episodes, are just beginning the process of recovery and the process of coming to terms with what part they might’ve played in Hannah’s death and how Hannah’s death will change their lives going forward,” he said.
