Trump’s copy cake fail

It’s his party – and Trump will copy Obama’s cake if he wants to.

He’s only just been sworn in as the new President of the USA, but Donald Trump is already at the centre of scandal. The #cakegate scandal, that is.

Trump has set Twitter alight after the cake that was served at his Salute to Our Armed Services Inaugural Ball on Friday looked remarkably similar to another cake.

A cake that was served at Obama’s Commander In Chief Ball in 2013, in fact.

With the original cake designer Duff Goldman outing the copycake on Twitter, Trump’s latest bakers revealed they’d specifically been asked to create a similar cake.

“While we most love creating original designs, when we are asked to replicate someone else's work we are thrilled when it is a masterpiece like this one,” Buttercream Bakeshop wrote in a Facebook post.

The bakery then went onto credit the original cake creator, writing: “@duff_goldman originally created this for Obama's inauguration 4 years ago and this years committee commissioned us to re-create it.”

Naturally, Twitter users were quick to jump on the #cakegate bandwagon.

This isn’t the first time the Trumps have borrowed from Obamas.

With Trump officially taking over the @POTUS Twitter handle after his inauguration ceremony, followers were quick to point out the profile photo had been changed – to one from Obama’s hugely attended inauguration.

And who can forget Melania Trump’s eerily similar speech to former FLOTUS’ 2008 words?
