Actress Jessica Szohr has spoken out in defence of her ex-boyfriend and Gossip Girl co-star Ed Westwick, after rape allegations were leveled against him by several other women.
“I have known Ed for years and know how lovely he is, and don't think he would ever put someone in a position like that," the 32-year-old star, who dated Ed between 2008 and 2010, told Cosmopolitan in a recent interview.
"It’s just, it’s a touchy, tough thing that you pray it’s not true and that with, outside of even him, all these different topics coming up, I’m glad that there’s notice being put on it for women that are going through it," she continued, adding, that the subject matter is "touchy".
Claims made against Ed come after Hollywood has been rocked by sex abused allegations against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.
Earlier this month Ed responded to the claims he sexually assaulted an actress at his home in 2014, saying he has "never committed rape".
The British actor, who is best known for his role as Chuck Bass in Gossip Girl, was accused of forcing himself on actress Kristina Cohen in a lengthy post she shared to Facebook.
But Ed, 30, denied the claims in a post on his social media, claiming he does not know the actress.
"I do not know this woman," he said in a statement. "I have never forced myself in any manner, on any woman. I certainly have never committed rape.”
Kristina, 27, from Los Angeles, said she visited the actor’s house with her then producer boyfriend, but instantly felt uncomfortable in Westwick’s company.
She said she tried to leave because she was "tired", but was convinced to take a nap in the guest bedroom.
"I was woken up abruptly by Ed on top of me," she wrote in her post. "I told him to stop, but he was strong."
