When it comes to treading the minefield of Tinder match-ups, that crucial first message can be fraught with danger. Come on too strong and your future boyf might delete without a trace. Start with a simple, “Hey there” and risk being bumped to the "Can I be bothered texting back?" pile.
Now Tinder sociologist Dr. Jess Carbino has revealed the secret to catching the eye of your swipe suitor – and it’s none other than everyone’s favourite GIFs.
In fact, according to Tinder’s research, kick things off with a GIF and you’re 30 percent more likely to get a response than if you didn’t.
“People are very attracted to art and things that are visual," Dr. Carbino told Engadget. "GIFs are a good way to assess compatibility and sense of humour."
Not only will you increase your chances of getting a conversation going, findings reveal your chat is likely to be twice as long as those that communicated GIF-less.
Time to hit Giphy, stat!
