Olympians are embracing the Tinder Games

Imagine if you walked into a bar and almost every guy was rocking a six-pack and the girls looked like they could be on the cover of Sports Illustrated?

Well, this magical place does exist… and it’s called the Olympic Village.

Little wonder then that single athletes are going to town on Tinder at the Rio Olympics, with figures released by the dating app claiming matches had risen 129 percent since athletes arrived at the Village from all over the world.

Taking the hassle out of swiping, Instagram accounts Tinderrio and Sportsswipe have sprung up, revealing which Olympic stars are on the lookout for love at the games.

Aussies such as swimmer Brianna Throssell and cyclist Karrle McCulloch are reportedly just some of the athletes using the app while in the Brazilian city, as well as tennis player Thanasi Kokkinakis.

US swim star Ryan Lochte confessed he’d downloaded the dating app in preparation for the Olympic games.

“I just recently signed up for Tinder,” he told GQ. “I heard going back to the [2014] Sochi Olympics the athletes were using Tinder in the Village and everything, so I started using that. So we'll just have to wait and see.”

Organisers have set a new Olympic record by handing out 450,000 free condoms, which equates to an impressive 42 condoms per athlete.

But falling victim to the age-old battle of sneakily trying to get your hands on condoms without half the supermarket – or half the world’s elite athletes – finding out about it, insiders reveal the condoms are housed in giant green vending machines and very publicly located in the Village’s lounges and food hall.

“You have to turn the thing and it is really loud,” New Zealand equestrian Clarke Johnstone told USA Today. “I just sort of went in and got a couple and then left, to be honest.”

Despite this, we’re sure there’ll be no shortage of athletes looking to let loose once they’ve finished competing in their events.

"Let's just say there is a very good reason there are so many free condoms in the village. This year I expect Tinder will be very popular," Aussie swimmer Melanie Schlanger told News Corp.
