The jaw-dropping moment a jealous beauty queen steals the winner’s crown

There’s been no shortage of stuff-ups and gaffes in the beauty pageant world of late - and now a Colombian contestant is making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Runner-up Yeimy Lizeth Silvestre apparently couldn’t handle the fact she didn’t win the Miss Bambuco International beauty pageant, and ended up looking like a very sore loser after she plucked the crown off the winner’s head.

While first place winner Valentina Bonilla sat blowing kisses to the crowd and smiling for the cameras, Silvestre swiftly swooped in and snatched her crown, placing it atop her own head.

After basking in the glow of the winner’s circle, Bonilla returned the crown to its rightful owner and was promptly escorted off-stage by security.

This certainly isn’t the first time there’s been controversy surrounding a beauty pageant – last year, host Steve Harvey incorrectly announced Miss Colombia (real name Ariadna Gutierrez) as the winner – and she’s been vocal about it ever since.

In the months following the fallout, Gutierrez was invited to confront the man who’d ripped all her dreams away – on live television.

Naturally, Gutierrez embraced the opportunity with open arms, while Harvey no doubt secretly rejoiced at the inevitable ratings increase.

“How do you feel about the way I handled the situation?” he asked her point blank.

“You need to learn how to read,” Gutierrez fired back. “Because… it was on the card. You wanted me to win”.

“Yes!” Harvey replied.

The duo then made fun of Harvey’s face the moment he has to tell her he picked the wrong winner.

“I was laughing. I thought you were about to make a joke,” Gutierrez said. “Like Oprah. You’re Miss Universe! And you’re Miss Universe! Everyone is Miss Universe!”
