Instagram's new update looks a lot like Snapchat

Instagram has rolled out a new 'stories' feature that looks a very lot like Snapchat.

Just like instant photo-sharing app Snapchat, the new 'stories' feature on Instagram allows users to upload a series of photos which disappear after 24 hours.

The similarities don't stop there because just like Snapchat, which gives users the chance to use novelty geotags, scribbles and emojis, the Instagram feature also allows their users to post buzz words, digital stickers and draw on photos in a range of colours.

Starting from today, Serena Williams will be the first athlete to use Instagram’s 'stories', giving fans a glimpse into her travels and preparations leading up to competing in Rio.

Here's how you can navigate your way around the new update on Instagram.

How to watch someone's story on the new feature

To view someone’s story on Instagram, just tap on their profile photo.

According to a blog post from Instagram, "it’s easy to view stories at your own pace: tap to go back and forward or swipe to jump to another person’s story".

How to reply with a message to someone story

If you want to comment on something you see, you can tap and send a private message to that person on Instagram Direct.

Unlike regular posts, there are no likes or public comments.

How to choose who can see your story on Instagram

If your account is set to private then your story will only be visible to your followers.

However, you can also easily hide your entire story from anyone you don’t want to see it, even if they follow you.

When watching your own story, swipe up to check out who’s seen each photo and video.

How to share to your profile from your Instagram story

You can choose to feature a particular part of your story by posting it on your profile.

To share your story to your profile, click on the story and then press the button in the far right bottom corner. This will bring up a pop-up menu.

From there, you click 'share as post' and your story will upload to your Instagram account.

How to draw on your Instagram story

Similar to Snapchat, you can draw on your story by clicking on the pencil tool.

It will then pop up with a series of different colours you can use to draw on your pictures.

Just last year Miranda Kerr's fiance Evan Speigel rejected a $3 billion offer by Facebook to buy out Snapchat, however the company has now been valued at $20 billion.

However we can't imagine he's happy with Instagram's latest roll-out, which promises to shake up the photo-sharing app world.
