Another royal wedding on the way! Princess Eugenie gets engaged

With a wedding and two royal baby already coming up, Queen Elizabeth now has another reason to celebrate in 2018 after her granddaughter Princess Eugenie announced she's engaged.

The 27-year-old said 'yes' to her long-term boyfriend Jack Brooksbank, who proposed with a padparadscha sapphire and diamond engagement ring that looks very similar to her mum Sarah Ferguson's one.

The couple, who posed for an official portrait in Buckingham Palace to mark the occasion, got engaged in Nicaragua earlier this month, and said the moment happened while they were standing by a lake, watching the sunset.

“The lake was so beautiful,” Eugenie told the BCC, “The light was just a special light I had never seen. I actually said this is an incredible moment, and then he popped the question, which was really surprising even though we have been together seven years.”

“I was over the moon. [It was a] complete surprise. But it was the perfect moment, we couldn't be happier.”

The Princess also revealed that the Queen was in on the surprise from the start.

“Granny actually knew right at the beginning [of the engagement],” she said, “We left her this weekend and had a lovely time and she was very happy, as was my grandfather. “

“We literally just told out mother and fathers and brothers and sisters and our grandparents.”

The happy news has been met with joy by her parents the Duke and Duchess of York, Andrew and Sarah, who have remained close despite divorcing.

"I'm just completely overjoyed for them and wish them every happiness," the Duke said, while Sarah echoed that it was a moment of 'total joy'.

"We love Jack and I am so excited to have a son, a brother and a best friend. Eugenie is one of the finest people I know and so together it will be pure harmony," she said in a tweet.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh also expressed their delight at the news, wishing their granddaughter and her fiance 'all the best'.

Eugenie and her fiance plan to marry this autumn in the UK, at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle - the same venue as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding in May, but Andrew said a date had yet to be chosen.

Jack's parents said in a short statement: "We could not be more delighted with the news of the engagement.

"We are completely over the moon and are very excited for them both."

The exciting news comes just weeks after the Queen's other granddaughter Zara Phillips, announced she's pregnant with her second child.
