Lynzey Murphy: ‘I was prioritising the wrong things’

Lynzey Murphy is the reason I stay clear of the workout bars on Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

But the personal trainer isn't only a gun in the gym, she’s a killer cook too, having been a rockstar on the 2015 My Kitchen Rules show alongside her father, Robert Murphy, aka the Texan barbeque king.

The former MKR star is an “all or nothing” kind of girl when it comes to training and her insane daily exercise regime and inspirational Instagram account is testimony to this.

The 25-year-old whips out workouts that put mine to shame, like her air-walking wide grip pull ups. Seriously, is she human?

Despite the cooking competition’s tight schedule, Murphy let nothing get in the way of her training routine during last year’s season.

“I found it really kept me grounded throughout the competition, to just make sure I got my training in once a day, whether that was going to the gym or just doing an hour in the hotel room,” she says.

Murphy’s blinding smile lights up any room she walks into and it was a shame the bubbly pair exited the show.

“I really enjoyed the experience, mainly because I did it with my dad and it was an incredible bonding experience for the two of us,” she says.

But Murphy reveals her love for all things fitness might have gotten in the way of making it to the end.

“Maybe that’s why we only made it halfway into the competition because I was prioritising the wrong things,” she says.

Since she picked up weight training three years ago, the fitness fanatic has become an inspiration to many women hoping to get healthy and change their life for the better.

When it comes to cheat meals, Murphy believes in satisfying cravings as they come to avoid going overboard.

“Balance is key,” she says.

And my pre-workout smoothie is just that. This savoury, sweet and nutritious delight is just what your body needs before a kickass workout and as Murphy says, "it’s as delicious as it is colourful.”
