Mia Freedman shares empowering photo of her 'stomach rolls'

Mia Freedman wants you to know she’s “fine” about her body not being perfect in the recent Instagram picture she uploaded of her stomach rolls.

The Mamamia founder wanted to challenge the notion of body image expectations and decided to upload the very honest photo to her account.

“No matter how much you exercise, no matter what size, sometimes - espesh after you've had kids - your body looks like this and it's FIIIIIIIIINE,” the mother-of-three captioned the raw image.

In a world where 'fitspiration' on Instagram can pressure women to meet unrealistic expectations and make them think their bodies aren’t good enough, Mia took to the social media platform to let women know their bodies don’t define them and they are perfect the way they are.

“My stomach will never be flat or ripped and why should it be? I'm a 45 year old mother of three. I am not my body,” she wrote.

The media personality says she doesn’t do exercise to punish herself or even look good physically, but rather to clear her head and feel good on the inside.

“I exercise for so many reasons, not just the pursuit of a particular type of body. I hate that exercise has been hijacked by this idea of posting photos of ripped abs and perky bums. For me, it's about how it makes me feel not how it makes me look.”

Since uploading the empowering post yesterday, Mia’s image has been liked more 5000 times and received over 300 comments.

“Thank you Mia! For empowering us to be happy with who we are. Good on you for being brave and posting this,” one user said.

“It amazes me that so many women around the world struggle with this. It's absolutely amazing that women such as you Mia are able to let your guard down to empower other women to say this is normal not all the images we are exposed to are truth. Thank you Mia.”

While the majority of her fans took to the comment section to voice their support for the editor, some users didn’t quite seem to grasp the essence of Mia’s message and told the mum she wasn’t “trying hard enough” to get that Insta bod.

“You are not trying hard enough lazy. I can make you look how u should at 45,” someone wrote.

Another user slammed the mum for shaming those 45-year-olds with good bodies - which certainly didn’t seem to be Mia’s intention.

“You shouldnt shame other 45 year olds who have kids and have a ripped bodies, because that is their goal not urs. And that's fine as well... if you hate seeing ripped flat belly posts... stop following those type of posts... don't look at the pics. For some it's very motivating and inspiring, for others; they can get the same feeling from reading or seeing other things... if your fine with ur body the way it is great... flaunt and be proud... you arnt your body... but when u look good and take care of the outside the inner follows... (and vice verser) do what makes you happy (sic),” they said,

Despite the few body shaming comments, the majority of her fans felt empowered by the brave post, which certainly is a breath of fresh air.
