This Instagram account swaps junk food labels for the calorie count

When indulging in your favourite treats like a delicous cheeseburger or a heaped spoon of velvety Nutella, you pretty much know exactly how it’s going to taste with each bite.

What you might not know however, is how many calories you’re consuming.

A clever new Instagram account called Calorie Brands, replaces the logos of your favourite fast food and confectionary brands with the amount of calories each item contains.

“This is how brands should look to help you achieve your summer body goals,” the account’s bio reads.

The founders, Rodrigo Batista from Spain, and Alessia Mordini from Italy created the account during an internship in London with hopes of raise awareness about healthy eating.

Think hot chips are harmless? They contain more than one fifth of your daily intake.

But, the highest calorie count on the Instagram feed – 4520 – is reserved for the cult-favorite chocolate hazelnut spread. “What a skinny world without Nutella,” says the caption. Luckily for Nutella fans, that is the count for the entire jar...

It can really make you stop an think considering the average man needs about 2500 calories a day, while a healthy woman needs about 2000.

They hope their project won’t be misconstrued - Mordini says their message is to “enjoy with awareness.”

"We are not against eating the food on Calorie Brands at all — you just have to control and don't abuse this kind of snacks," says Dominguez.

The message isn't all about food though and a night out drinking doesn't escape the treatment either. A 1625-calorie bottle of Absolut Vodka appears with the caption "Got wasted last night? Here's another reason to regret it."

If the altered photos weren’t enough to keep you on the diet track, the captions might persuade you. “Delivered directly to your butt,” says the caption next to a 1680 calorie Dominos-logo pizza box.
