Kindergarten checklist outrages parents everywhere

Packing a child off for their first day of kindergarten can be not only emotional but pretty stressful too.

While you know they’re inevitably going to love it, you always wonder if you’ve prepared them well enough for the real world.

However one dad got a massive shock when he received a long list from his son’s new kindergarten, asking him if his child was ready.

“Is your child ready for kindergarten?” it was titled in block capital letters, before listing out 11 expectations.

“Can he or she write their name, hold a pencil the correct way and cut with a scissors correctly?” the list asks.

It continues, asking parents if their child can “identify 30+ letters, follow 2-3 step instructions and draw a picture and tell about it?”

The dad posted the image to Reddit, alongside the caption: “I have failed to prepare my son for Kintergarden”.

Parents were outraged over the Reddit post, with many claiming they themselves wouldn’t be ready for kindergarten if they were to answer the questions on the list.

“Identify 30+ letters? I thought the alphabet was 26, apparently I'm not ready for kindergarten,” one person said.

“My son's school expected him to be able to read fluently by the end of Kindergarten. I'm thinking back on my time in Kindergarten and all I remember doing was having story and snack time, watching other kids eat boogers, and recess,” another person said.

“Hell, there are fourth graders that can't follow 2-3 step instructions,” another person said.

Speaking to Today, the principal of the school who created the list said it was meant as a guidance for parents who are preparing their kids to enter their school years.
