Diana's massive pre-wedding weight loss revealed

It may have been a day that stopped the nation but for Princess Diana, her wedding to Prince Charles was anything but a fairytale.

According to the designers of the Princess’s wedding dress, Diana lost a shocking amount of weight before her wedding - with her waist being a tiny size 4 on the big day.

In an interview with People magazine, Elizabeth and David Emanuel said Diana's waistline dwindled in the lead up to the big day.

“Most brides do lose weight,” Emanuel told the magazine.

“So we weren’t that worried when she did. She was looking fantastic.

“She ended up with a 23-inch waist from a 26-to 27-inch.”

And while Elizabeth – and the rest of the world – may have thought Diana was glowing on the day, the reality was she was suffering from Bulimia.

The late Princess had just turned 20, and according to tapes she recorded prior to her tragic death in 1997, she began making herself sick right after she got engaged to Prince Charles.

According to a transcript of tapes published by the DailyMail, Diana had “shrunk to nothing” before her big day.

“The first time I was measured for my wedding dress, I was 29 inches around the waist. The day I got married, I was 23-and-a-half inches. I had shrunk into nothing from February to July,” she said.

“The bulimia started the week after we got engaged.

“My husband put his hand on my waistline and said, ‘Oh, a bit chubby here, aren’t we?’ and that triggered off something in me.”

Charles proposed to Diana in February 1981 and five months later they were married at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Diana also remembers the first time she met Prince Charles in the tapes, claiming he was dating her sister, Sarah, at the time.

She recalled thinking he looked like a “sad man” and later was only allowed to refer to him by the name Sir, until they were married.

Charles and Diana eventually separated 11 years after they married, with Diana blaming Camilla for the disintegration of their marriage.

“There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded”, she famously said in an interview with Martin Bashir, after she divorced Charles.
