Prince Harry proved he’s one of the best brothers around when Prince William decided to pop the question to Kate Middleton in 2010.

The dapper 32-year-old made the ultimate sacrifice for Wills when he gave up something precious of his mother’s just so his older brother could give it to Kate.

Now it’s been revealed that Prince Harry was actually the owner of Princess Diana’s engagement ring before handing it over to Prince William.

According to the Daily star, both of the boys were allowed to choose one thing from their mother’s jewelry collection as a “keepsake” when she passed away in 1997.

“William picked his mum’s Cartier watch, and Harry picked her sapphire and diamond engagement ring," an insider told the Daily Star.

It’s believed that the pair had a pact that whoever was ready to propose first would take the ring.

Prince William famously got down on one knee and popped the question to Kate with his mother’s engagement ring while the pair were on an African safari.

The couple then held a press conference in the UK where Kate flaunted the dazzling sapphire ring for the world to see.

However with Harry now in a serious relationship with Suits actress Meghan Markle, we’re all wondering if maybe he regrets giving away the family heirloom?

Harry is also now also believed to be keen to include something of his mother’s when he drops to one knee and asks Meghan Markle to marry him.

According to sources, Prince Harry is so smitten with the American actress from Suits that he’s in the midst of creating an engagement ring for Meghan made from one of his mother’s favourite bracelets, before he proposes to marry her.

The Daily Star reports that Harry has enlisted the help of longtime royal jeweller, Harry Collins, to create the one-of-a-kind piece, said to be worth up to $170,000.

It will reportedly feature the emerald diamonds from one of Diana’s bracelets.

The couple are currently on their own African safari after Harry whisked her away on the romantic retreat for her birthday this weekend.

Royal watchers are avidly waiting to see if there will be an announcement from the lovebirds on their return to the UK.
