Surviving your office Christmas party as a single woman

The silly season is a time for family and friends, and lots of Christmas parties.

The office Christmas party can sometimes be a stark reminder for singles looking to settle down that they haven't found the right partner yet.

But that doesn’t mean you need to worry you won’t have a good time, and you definitely shouldn’t even think about missing it all together.

If you’re single and dreading your work’s yearly bash, we’ve got some tips to not only help you survive the party, but enjoy it as well.

Relationship expert and love coach Hilary Silver has shared her top tips with Be.

Stop worrying about being single
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being single and it doesn’t mean that you’re not completely happy with your life the way it is. So make sure you remember that. Hilary says you want to show up to the party feeling festive confident and ready to spread the cheer.

“People take their cues from you so if you are happy on your own, people will feel that and not impose their own feelings about your single status on you,” she tells Be.

Dress your best
Hilary says it’s a great time to treat to treat yourself to a new outfit, but remember you’re dressing for yourself, not for anybody else.

“Wear something that makes you feel amazing and irresistible so when you walk in the room you can own it and turn heads. This does NOT mean being overly flashy, sexy or wearing something skimpy.”

Don’t drink too much
Not matter how much everyone else is getting into the spirit it’s important to set yourself a limit and stick to it.

“This is not an excuse to go crazy, let your hair down and show everyone how fun you are by dancing on the tables. You will pay for this later,” Hilary warns.

No hook ups
Even if you’ve been flirting with someone for a while the office Christmas party is not the time or place to hook up with a colleague. Hilary says going home with someone after some drunken antics only “demonstrates poor decision-making behaviour and desperation”.

Have the best time
Single or not, the office party is a time to have a blast with your colleagues. So relax, network and have fun.

“Being single at these events has its upsides because you can talk with whoever you choose and not worry about tending to your date, especially if they don’t know anyone.
