The royal children who could lose their titles

They’re the jet setting royal family who have already called New York and London their home.

And now Princess Madeleine of Sweden’s three young children could be at risk of losing their titles after the family announced they’re set to relocate to Florida.

The Swedish Royal Court confirmed the move earlier this month, detailing how the time was right for Princess Madeleine, who is the second daughter and youngest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, and her young brood.

However experts say the family’s new home – and their extended departure from Sweden – could break royal rules regarding succession.

“The order of succession contains two requirements,” political scientist David Ekstrand told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.

“One is that successors must be raised as Protestants, the other is that they have to be raised in Sweden.”

Princess Madeleine shares four-year-old Leonore, Nicolas, three, and four-month-old Adrienne, with her British-American husband Christopher O’Neill, and only returned home recently for the birth of her youngest.

Following Princess Leonore’s birth in 2014, the Marshall of the Realm, Svante Lindqvist, publicly declared that any young Swedish royal must live in the country from the age of six.

The timing coincides with the age children start compulsory elementary school in Sweden.

The Swedish palace hinted at the time constraints when announcing the move earlier this month.

“The time and opportunity for the United States is good for the family when the children are still in pre-school age,” a statement from the Swedish royal palace read.

It’s sparked speculation the family have two years until Princess Leonore is of school age before the family needs to return.

According to the Express, history dictates that any prince who loses their right to succession were also stripped of their royal status.
