I tried this $500 luxury beauty treatment and here's what happened

I know what you're thinking, '$500 for a beauty treatment? What do they do rub caviar all over your body?'.

Well the answer is yes, yes they do and while it may sounds ridiculously overindulgent, we just had to try it out and see whether it's worth the hefty price tag.

While using caviar in beauty treatments isn't a new phenomenon, it's rare to come by, is known for its skin brightening agents and it promised to banish any redness I have - a win-win situation if you ask me.

And since most of us (myself included) don't drop that kind of cash on a spa session on the regular, we were curious if it was worth $500, so here's what we found out.

How it works

The La Prairie Ultimate Caviar Luxury treatment, which I experienced at The Darling Spa in Sydney, is two hours of pure bliss that will leave you felling like you're walking on the fluffiest cloud there is.

First you'll be treated to a one hour nourishing caviar full body massage which is performed using La Prairie body massage oil infused with drops of Extrait of Skin Caviar Complex.

While I can tend to be a bit squeamish when it comes to full body massages (everywhere has different ideas of pressure levels) the masseuse made sure I was comfortable each step of the way, stopping regularly to ask if the pressure was right, if I was comfortable or needed water and if the temperature of the room was to my satisfaction.

Next you are turned over and it's time for the one hour caviar firming facial and I'm not going to lie I may have fallen asleep for a good part of this.

The treatment claims to instantly boost and firm the skin and give you a radiant glow.

First a skin caviar liquid lift is applied to the face and eye area using warm gloves and then you will experience a massage using skin caviar crystalline concentre.

The spa

Situated in the glamorous Darling Hotel in The Star Casino, you'll be given the first class treatment from the moment you walk in the door.

A hotel doorman escorted me upstairs and dropped me off at the spa door where I was shown through the tranquil spa and into the luxury changing rooms.

From there you're given a tour of the complex and all treatments include use of the steam room, salt water jacuzzi and the gym.

The spa has 11 treatment rooms, two couples suites, a Moroccan Hammam chamber and a fitness centre complete with a Kinesis wall.

Two new treatments have been added to the menu so now you can relax and relieve tension with a specially designed bamboo massage or minimise the signs of aging with the Deesse LED anti-aging mask treatment.

Plus they also validate parking so you don't have to worry about finding a space in the city.

The aftermath

My skin tends to cope well considering I'm constantly trying out new products and new treatments but this time it felt like I was giving it the TLC it needed.

When the treatment finished my facialist asked me to stay away from any exfoliating products for one week to allow my skin to recover.

After just one day I could already see the difference in my skin. It looked fresher, brighter and best of all the redness that usually crops up on my cheeks after a few hours was gone.

And while I do realise that one treatment isn't going to solve all my problems, I think it's the perfect way to get your skin in tip-top shape before you start your at-home care.

There's no doubt about it that $500 is quite steep for two hours but I don't think I would hesitate in recommending this ultimate luxury treatment to anyone.
