You can stay in a heritage-listed post office

From aquariums and igloos, to tree-top cubby houses and converted jails; more and more travellers are moving away from traditional hotels to try something a little bit different.

If you're in Singapore, one of the more unique places you can stay is the old General Post Office.

The iconic Fullerton building was once the city state's first bustling hub for snail mail; the go-to destination for all things communication. It was even connected to a railway line via the basement so that post could be easily transported from the building to the nearby pier.

Converted in 1997, The Fullerton building is now one of Singapore's most iconic hotels.

The 400-room complex boasts a 25 metre pool that overlooks the Singapore River, a wellness spa and a fitness centre – so it's come a long way since the days of delivering wedding invites!

But regardless of the change of purpose, the hotel hasn't forgotten its roots.

The building's classically elegant columns give a clue to its former role, not to mention they give the building a major wow factor.

The "Mailer's Tunnel" subway now connects The Fullerton to the affiliated Fullerton Bay Hotel, as well as a solid selection of restaurants, cafes and bars along the iconic Clifford Pier.

Whilst there are several bars in close proximity, 'The Lighthouse Restaurant and Rooftop Bar' really stands out.

Located on top of the hotel, as the name suggests, it used to be a fully functioning lighthouse.

Sweeping views over the beautiful Marina Bay make it the perfect spot to have a classic Singapore Sling cocktail and watch the spectacular "Spectra" light and water show that plays nightly.

For those who like to "Netflix and chill" on holidays, the rooms are heaven.

There are options to have either a view of the Marina Bay or the Singapore River. During our stay, the rooms were in the process of being refurbished, so we stayed in a room which hadn’t yet been renovated, but it was still out of this world.

It was spacious with a grand bathroom, because who doesn’t love a bathtub?

Room amenities included a pillow menu, so you can get the world’s best night’s sleep and your own personal phone to use during your travels – saving you major grey hairs from worrying about those overseas roaming rates.

If you're looking for something a little unique on your next visit to Singapore, The Fullerton could be for you.
