Church to pay brides for showing up on time

A priest in the UK is sick of waiting for late brides to show up for their weddings that he has decided to offer them an incentive to be on time.

It’s one of those things that is almost expected at weddings – for the bride to be late – and yet often it can be the most annoying thing for everyone else involved, who has made the effort to get ready and be there on time.

I was actually running perfectly on time for my wedding, until my bridesmaids decided that there was no way I should be showing up on time and actually made me sit and wait 10 minutes before we left.

So, then I was late, which for someone who likes to be very organised was super frustrating.

So it’s no surprise that a priest, who probably does hundreds of weddings a year, has finally had enough.

Vicar John Corbyn is giving brides a 10-minute window to arrive on their big day, and if they do so successfully, he'll give them £100 ($175), the Kent Messenger reports.

Not bad for doing something as simple as showing up on time.

John says it’s more than just him that gets annoyed when things are running late.

"I wanted to show that I was taking my staff seriously because they weren’t doing it for the money. I thought this is the way to do it," he said.

"When you’re talking about a bride being 20 minutes late that’s half the time of the wedding ceremony.

"You can talk of up to two dozen people waiting for that time. How would they react if I were 20 minutes late?"
