Deb Knight steps in for Lisa as rumours rage over her replacement
It’s the most coveted job in TV journalism.
And now, with the departure of Lisa Wilkinson, taking over her hosting role on Today is anyone’s game and although Deborah Knight stepped in to cover Lisa rumours are rife the permanent replacement will in fact be current newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys.
Lisa announced she would be leaving the show in a shock late-night announcement.
"I have some news. I'm sad to say that today was my last day on @the today show. The following statement is from Channel Nine..." she wrote on Twitter.

It’s speculated that the 57-year-old decided to leave after her bosses at the Nine Network refused to pay her the same amount as her co-host Karl Stefanovic.
The Nine Network certainly isn’t wanting for talent to take over Lisa’s role.
Many believe the primes candidate to be Sylvia, 31, – who also happens to be married to Karl’s brother Peter Stefanovic.
Several fans have already taken to Twitter to claiming that Sylvia, or SJ as she's affectionately known on the show by brother-in-law Karl, has the top-job in the bag.
@SylviaJeffreys guess you're in the main seat now 👍

Another hot contender is Deborah Knight – who immediately took the reigns following Lisa’s immediate departure.
Mother-of-three Deb is a regular on the show and toggles a number of roles including co-hosting duties and news reading.
This morning it was business as usual on the show with Karl making little mention of Lisa's departure, only to say that it was a topic the team woul "discuss later".
During a segment in which the hosts read out the headlines of newspapers around the country, Karl let slip that Lisa's departure "came as a shock" to everyone on the team.
As for Lisa, she will be heading to Channel Ten where she will joing their nightly news an current affairs program, The Project.
Thanks so much to everyone for all your lovely messages. I have some more news. This statement is from @channelten. I'm absolutely thrilled. pic.twitter.com/7bN9s9TUHn
