Georgie Gardner won’t take over Lisa Wilkinson's seat on Today
As the hunt continues for someone to replace Lisa Wilkinson’s empty seat on the Today show, it’s been revealed network favourite Georgie Gardner has declined the offer.
It was a shock to the nation when Lisa Wilkinson abruptly left the Today show on Channel Nine after a decade at the desk, and her replacement is yet to be announced.
Reports have emerged that former show newsreader Georgie won’t be returning to fill the seat after Nine executives failed to convince the 46-year-old to return to breakfast television.
The Daily Telegraph reported that Nine boss Hugh Marks saw Georgie as the 'best fit' for the role.
However, it seems the mum-of-two wasn't interested in returning to the gruelling early hours, with the publication stating ‘the punishing hours had ruled her out’.
This revelation leaved fellow channel Nine newsreader Deborah Knight as a firm frontrunner to fill the seat next to Karl Stefanovic on the Today show.
It was revealed in October that Lisa would not return to the Channel Nine program, and would be starting a new role at rival network Channel Ten's The Project.
Her exit from the network after 10 years comes after speculation surrounding her salary expectations, with reports the 57-year-old demanded the same pay as co-host Karl Stefanovic.
