Snapchat has been forced to remove this filter after it's accused of being 'racist'

Snapchat's latest filter update has infuriated many of its users, with people claiming it's 'racist'.

The filter, which has now been removed from the instant photo-sharing app, featured Asian caricatures, immediately prompting accusations that it was an example of ‘yellowface’.

The backlash comes just months after Snapchat was accused of promoting “digital blackface” with a Bob Marley filter.

However the latest filter update left fans furious, with users able to turn themselves into an Asian caricature, with squinty eyes and oversized teeth.

Snapchat users took to Twitter to vent their frustration, with many saying they would be deleting the app and others wondering if the tech company even realised they were being 'racist'.

According to The Guardian, Snapchat responded to the criticism, claiming the filter was an “anime-inspired Lens” that won't be seen again on the app.

“Lenses are meant to be playful and never to offend,” they said.
