Aussie mum finds possum stuck in her kitchen wall
An Aussie mum got the shock of her life after discovering a wild possum had become stuck in her kitchen wall - because it’s behind was too big to fit through.
Jo Stevens, from Melbourne, thought she was dreaming when her husband Mike shook her awake at 2am and told her there was a crazed possum wreaking havoc in their kitchen.
The 50-year-old mum stumbled out of bed to see if her partner’s bizarre claims were true - and was flabbergasted to discover the cheeky marsupial completely stuck in the kitchen wall.
The couple are currently renovating their home and have been left with temporary holes in their kitchen walls, which the mischievous possum tried to crawl through – until his furry behind got stuck.
“It just such a shock. It was the middle of the night, and Mike went to get a glass of water from the kitchen,” Jo said.
“Suddenly he comes running into my room and wakes me up, saying there is a possum in the kitchen.
“I felt so sorry for him. He was ready for a fight – he has his teeth bared, his claws were up, and he was growling.
“He was ready to scratch my eyes out. But he just couldn’t move.
“His behind was just too big to get through.
“We tried nudging him a little, but he wouldn’t budge. He was absolutely stuck.
“We were dumbfounded. We had no idea how to get him out.
“We didn’t want to hurt him. It was dangerous because there were all electrical wires sticking out as well.
“My husband ended up getting some plyers and just started digging at the hole.”
Jo said the little creature was 'going crazy' because he was so petrified - so she dutifully prepared some juicy grapes on a plate, which she fed to him with a fork to try and pacify him.
After thirty minutes of feeding the possum grapes while her husband slowly hacked away at bits of plaster, the hole was finally big enough for the possum to fit through.
With a little nudge, the creature flew backwards and did a few somersaults before scrambling back up to the roof and fleeing outside.
"Thankfully he got out unscathed. But I haven’t seen or heard any possums since that happened, so maybe word has spread about his treacherous adventure into our home,” she said.
