The Crown tackles modern era in new trailer

As the Queen steps into her second decade as the ruling monarch, it seems she is set to face some of her biggest challenges yet in The Crown.

The official trailer for season two of the hit Netflix series has just dropped (watch above) and, just like the first season, it looks like the scandal, scrutiny and gossip surrounding the royal family will be dramatic.

With British society entering into the swinging sixties is looks as though Queen Elizabeth II (played by Clare Foy), Prince Philip (played by Matt Smith) and those around them are struggling to keep up with the times in the new age of modernism.

One royal family member who seems to embrace the new era is Princess Margaret (played by Vanessa Kirby) as she embarks upon a new romance, with her future husband, photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones (played by Matthew Goode).

“I know who I am,” the young princess says in the trailer. “A woman for the modern age. Free to live, to love and free to break away.”

With criticism from the public, the Queen grapples to get to grips with the modern age.

“What is it you’d have me change?” she asks an advisor in the trailer.

“Everything,” the advisor simply replies.

On top of everything, Prince Philip is seen to be struggling with his rank amongst the House of Windsor.

“I will earn their respect, right now. I’m currently outranked by my eight-year-old son,” he complains in the trailer.
